About Us
Community Spotlight began in 2020 as Together We Can Portsmouth, a Facebook group designed to connect local people and groups during the Covid-19 pandemic. What emerged was more than just a support network—it was a demonstration of the rich assets already present in our city: skills, knowledge, creativity, and a strong sense of community spirit.
In just 18 months, the group became a thriving hub of connection and collaboration, showcasing the potential of asset-based approaches to community building.

FORMATION OF COMMUNITY SPOTLIGHT CIC
To build on this success, we established Community Spotlight CIC in 2022. As a not-for-profit Community Interest Company, our aim is to champion an asset-based community development (ABCD) strategy. Rather than focusing on deficits or gaps, we highlight and connect the existing strengths of local people and organisations—helping them grow, collaborate, and reach wider audiences.

By using an ABCD approach, Community Spotlight CIC shifts the narrative from what communities, lack to what communities already have. This strategy not only builds pride and participation but also creates a sustainable ecosystem where local assets are connected, celebrated, and mobilised for long-term community wellbeing.

My Story
I am a natural problem solver with a passion for bringing people together and creating meaningful community connections. Over the years, I have built and grown a variety of social media networks, from dog owner communities to children’s and adult activity groups, all designed to help people connect, collaborate and thrive. During the COVID-19 pandemic, I founded Together We Can Portsmouth, a Facebook-based community support group that brought people together during a challenging time. What began as a way to help others stay connected and supported ultimately led to the creation of Community Spotlight CIC.

I firmly believe in pushing beyond perceived limits and demonstrating what can be achieved through courage, determination and drive. As a mum of four and former stay-at-home parent, I balanced family life with running an online retail party business for eight years, studying for a Foundation Degree in Retail Management, and establishing thriving online community groups. I have also served as Marketing Officer and Chair of Portsmouth Victoria Artistic Swimming Club and recently completed a Level 2 Counselling Skills course. Everything I do is rooted in a desire to solve problems, strengthen communities and, most importantly, put a smile on people’s faces.
